Most of us have experienced our fair share of smokey weather over the last few weeks. During these times, it's important to think about the health effects of breathing this smokey air and what we can do to protect ourselves from it!

We've had some terrible weather events recently all around the country. Bushfires have been rampant all across QLD (and especially the Sunshine Coast right now), to Northern NSW to Darwin and Perth. Of course, we hope that everyone stays safe during these dangerous times, but it's also important to consider the health effects of breathing in this polluted air.

We're seeing this smoke in many surrounding areas and even areas large distances away due to some crazy winds. Even low levels of breathing this smoke can have terrible effects on those of us with allergies, asthma and assorted breathing issues. "Smoke particles can cause many health problems such as itchy or burning eyes, throat irritation, a runny nose and illnesses such as bronchitis. It can also aggravate existing lung conditions such as emphysema." - Claudia Jambor, ABC News

This is so serious in fact that there have been calls for 'air quality monitoring' by health experts. Check out a great article on this topic from ABC News right here: Calls for air quality monitoring as northern NSW braces for severe bushfire season

In preparing for these poor-air quality smokey conditions, many of us close our windows and doors, but unfortunately this polluted air often still makes its way into the home. This is where air-purifiers can be just so important. We encourage all of our Winix air-purifier owners out there to have them running at all times during these hazardous conditions. Especially throughout the night for clean and healthy air while we sleep. As pictured, in addition to protecting ourselves and our families, it's a great relief to know that we're also protecting the health of our much-loved pets!

As always, please let us know if you have any questions and stay safe out there!
