Dehumidifiers & Camping Gear

Dehumidifiers & Camping Gear

Been camping recently or planning your next trip? Make sure to dry out your camping gear with your Dehumidifier before packing it away for your next adventure!

Your Ausclimate Dehumidifier is the most effective way to dry out expensive camping gear, ensuring that there’s no nasty surprises for next time. Without proper moisture extraction of your camping gear after a trip, you could easily open yourself up to moisture damage and mould when rolling out the tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses and even your hiking boots/coats. Common signs include musty smells, the presence of moisture, overall dampness and the growth of unsightly mould and mildew. This not only destroys your expensive camping gear, but also has potential to affect your family’s health if re-used.

Here’s a couple of camping gear drying hints using your Ausclimate Dehumidifier:

  • Bring the camping gear inside the garage or even a spare room within the home
  • Drape everything over a clothes horse/airer, chairs or anything that will raise them off the floor and allow the air to circulate around them * Close the external windows and doors
  • Turn on a ceiling fan or pedestal fan to circulate the air (not essential, but helpful)
  • Turn on your Ausclimate NWT Dehumidifier and allow the Dehumidifier to do what it does best – remove the excess moisture from the room, including the excess moisture from all of your camping gear

The capacity of the Dehumidifier will influence the speed of the drying process. As example:

  • The NWT Small Home Dehumidifier will dry out the camping gear effectively in a room size up to 20 square metres and remove up to 12 litres of moisture per day during the drying process
  • On the other hand the NWT Supreme Home Dehumidifier will dry out the camping gear effectively in a room or garage up to 75 square metres and remove up to 50 litres of moisture per day during the drying process

Get the most out of your camping gear and enjoy your next camping trip!

Noosa Civic Shopping Centre

Noosa Civic Shopping Centre

Joanne & I had a great time meeting many lovely locals at the Noosa Civic Shopping Centre during our Dehumidifier demonstrations from 18 - 22 September 2013.

As usual, Joanne volunteered my inspection services to help customers decide on the best Dehumidifier to solve their home moisture problems.  Although we've had a recent dry spell, it was still surprising just how serious some of the problems were.

After setting up and demonstrating the Dehumidifiers, we were definitely glad that we brought along so many of our Supreme Dehumidifiers, such were the moisture problems in these homes. We also received more great feedback that they were still pulling large amounts of water. No doubt they will be further amazed with these Dehumidifiers in our hot wet and humid summer, which is just around the corner!

See you at our next round of Dehumidifier Demonstrations!

Caravans - moisture is the enemy

Caravans - moisture is the enemy

Warilla Grove Shopping Centre(Wed 2nd to Sat 5th October)

At this time of year, many of us are returning from or planning our next caravan trip. As a caravan enthusiast myself, I thought it a good time to share some tips on how to protect your caravan or motorhome from the often overlooked threat of moisture.

Water leaks, condensation and general dampness can build up on the inside of your caravan especially during winter or summers humid months. It doesn’t take long before mattresses, furnishings, curtains etc get that horrible musty smell followed by unsightly and harmful mould. If moisture is left untreated it can lead to more serious issues resulting in rot and property loss. The most effective and efficient way to stop this is by using an NWT Dehumidifier from Ausclimate.

After returning home from a trip away or before you put your caravan in storage its good practice to dry everything out. It’s amazing how much moisture is absorbed from wet weather, cooking and general everyday use. You should run your Dehumidifier inside the van for around a day or so and then again every few weeks (this can vary depending on the weather and size of Dehumidifier). This will maintain the dryness required to stop any mould or musty smells from returning - protecting the inside of your caravan.

For good air circulation you should prop up your cushions and ensure all mattresses have adequate space for airflow. All internal doors, cupboards and draws should be left open and make sure you clean out the fridge freezer before leaving its door open. If you are unfortunate enough to experience a serious water leak, ensure you dry it out immediately with a Dehumidifier. Ausclimate’s Dehumidifiers are often used in the water damage industry; our models are capable of drying your caravan out to its original condition.

Water leaks, mould or musty smells can have a dramatic effect on the value and longevity of your caravan. Look after your valuable asset by keeping it dry. And as always, if you’re experiencing any similar issues, please feel free to contact Russell or myself for expert advice and custom solutions for all of your moisture problems. Wagga Wagga visit

Wagga Wagga visit

Recently Chris and I travelled through Riverina in NSW when I received a call from Ryan Dent (pictured) of Wagga Wagga. Ryan was concerned about moisture problems in the rooms on the south side of his home which had become musty, (including the bathroom). He wanted to know if an Ausclimate Dehumidifier could solve this problem.

On our return trip to Sydney we decided to pay Ryan a visit to inspect the area first hand. The musty smell in Ryan's house is actually very typical of many homes in the cooler regions like Wagga Wagga, especially towards the end of winter. With no natural sunlight or warm breezes to help keep the rooms dry, combined with his busy life style whereby his house was locked up most days - there no chance for any air circulation.

Ryan purchased the Medium Home Dehumidifier, the ideal model for his situation. Well, that was over a week ago and we recently received a very happy call from Ryan to say thanks. We were delighted to hear that the Dehumidifier was performing so well the musty smells had already disappeared.

Great to hear that we’ve been able to help out with your moisture problems Ryan! Take care and keep in touch. Hopefully Chris and I can pay beautiful Wagga Wagga another visit in the near future, possibly displaying our range of Ausclimate Dehumidifiers in one of their shopping centers.

Brisbane Storm Season

Brisbane Storm Season

Ausclimate On-Location Update: Stocklands Shellharbour Shopping Centre - Wollongong
(Wednesday 18/09 - Sunday 29/09)

By now Queenslanders are accustomed to some pretty intense storms, like that of this past Monday night in the greater Brisbane area. As you can see unfortunately for my son and his partner, their gazebo didn’t quite survive the other night’s wild weather - but luckily for them, getting their Dehumidifier on the job quickly prevented any long-term interior moisture damage. Chris and Taleena’s apartment building is quite old and susceptible to moisture problems, (especially during storm seasons) so by immediately drying out their flood-affected laundry and kitchen area with their Dehumidifier, they were able to avoid any further moisture problems or lingering musty smells.

For any home moisture problems, musty smells or water damage restoration advice, (particularly during the wild storm seasons), please feel free to contact either Russell or Allan. Expert advice and custom solutions to all of your moisture problems is only a call away. Or check out the website at www.ausclimate.com.au

Stay dry, be prepared and breathe easy this storm season with Ausclimate.

Ausclimate competition catch-up

Catching up with our Ausclimate competition winner

(Ausclimate Dehumidifier winner, Sinisa of Zillmere, QLD)

We were delighted to recently catch up with our previous Ausclimate Dehumidifier winner from September 2012, Sinisa Kiefer of Zillmere, QLD. Despite Sinisa's physical condition, he gets out and about as much as possible, but when at home, comfort is very important to him. It was great to hear that Sinisa had really benefited from his Dehumidifier. His moisture and mould problems have since disappeared and his mattress and the rest of his bedroom are now completely dried out. No more dust mites or mould! Sinisa was so impressed that he has since leant the Dehumidifier to his Mum in the Glasshouse Mountains of the Sunshine Coast, for her to also enjoy the benefits of our Ausclimate Dehumidifiers.

Good to hear that we’ve been able to help out with your moisture problems Sinisa!

Take care and keep in touch :) And as always, if you’re experiencing any of these kind of issues, please feel free to contact either Russell or Allan for expert advice and custom solutions to all of your moisture problems. Or check out the website at www.ausclimate.com.au

Brisbane and Noosa visits

Brisbane & Noosa visits

Ausclimate on the road!

Brisbane Home Show (just passed)
Noosa Civic Shopping Centre (Today, 11/09 - Saturday 14/09)

Ausclimate were again well represented at the 2013 Brisbane September Home Show. We were delighted to meet & help a massive audience of visitors who shared their current concerns about their dampness issues.

It was particularly interesting to note how the change of seasons had influenced their home moisture problems from 'large scale' household problems to more' isolated room to room' moisture problems.

The most common concerns we found however, focused on health related issues, rather than the usual physical damage caused from home contents dampness issues. Many visitors spoke of respiratory issues from allergens like mould spores and dust mites.

Again, we were able to help many new Ausclimate friends and customers, educating about how to deal with these common issues and find solutions to their moisture problems. Many also took advantage of the great value Ausclimate dehumidifiers to dry out their problem areas and reduce these common triggers for their respiratory issues.

Noosa Civic Shopping Centre - (Today, 11/09 - Saturday 14/09)

Next up, we've just arrived at the Noosa Civic Shopping Centre and we'll be here every day through this Saturday. Come on down, say hello to Joanne & myself and find the solution to your home moisture problems! We'll also have details soon to come about our upcoming visit to Wollongong.

See you there!

Health Hazards of Moulds and Mildew

A beautiful home can turn into a dangerous brew of allergens instantly because of moulds and mildew. Fungi infestations may be harmless at first but can cause different illnesses if left unchecked. While it is true that some moulds can be harmless to the body, they can still have an effect on the home’s aesthetic and structural features.

Using dehumidifiers are just one of the few ways to prevent the build-up of moulds and mildew. You need to ensure that the humidity level in your home remains at a safe level. Fungi typically grow at above 60% humidity and it is important that you prevent their accumulation. Your family should be protected from these harmful elements.

Here are some details you need to know to help prevent fungi growth in the home.

Early Detection

Studies have shown that a large percentage of home owners often take mould accumulation tendencies for granted. This is because their build-up may be hard to detect. Many have lived in their houses for years without the slightest idea of a fungi invasion. Always look out for the most common signs such as musty odours and visual stains. Be aware, however, that moulds can be present without being visible so preventive measures are necessary.

Breeding Grounds

Moulds are microscopic fungi that normally grow on musty surfaces. They are found in the kitchen, bathroom, and other areas with run-down sewage systems or poor lighting. Spoiled food is also a breeding ground for these fungi such as the green ones we normally see on bread. These visible ones are just one type mould. Others are so small that they just float around our airspace awaiting inhalation.

Health Risks

Allergies that trigger sneezing, colds, and occasional sinusitis are the most common issues that can come from moulds. Continued exposure to fungi, though, can cause more than just simple allergies. For instance, asthma patients may have frequent attacks due to prolonged contact.

There are various ways of controlling mould and mildew growth in the house. Look for a reliable dehumidifier company that can help you keep your home safe. If you think your house is infested with moulds and mildew, visit us at ausclimate.com.au and let us help you.
