An Air Purifier Can Help My Voice?

Elisa Photo

Sometimes our customers find surprising uses for our Dehumidifier & Air Purifier products that we don't even know about. We were wowed when we received this stunning testimonial from Holistic Voice and Presentation Coach, Elisa James of Elisa James Haps VoicePro. Elisa purchased one of our Winix Air Purifiers to provide relief from her allergy & hay fever symptoms. As a professional speaker & voice coach/trainer, Elisa noted to us just how damaging respiratory disorders like asthma, allergies & hay fever can be to your overall voice quality. A quality air purifier can prove a vital tool in keeping these respiratory triggers at bay, without the side-effects of anti-histamines and asthma inhalers.

"As a voice coach, that also suffers from allergies and hayfever from Australian pollens and grasses, I have had a lot of students come to me with voice issues who suffer from similar problems. The only trouble is that, the medications we take to combat the symptoms of hayfever and allergies can have an adverse effect on the voice. It is very drying for the vocal folds, and sometimes even makes the voice croaky and raspy sounding. I needed to find a better solution for myself after making the decision to move back to Australia, and had no interest in turning to pills as a permanent solution. The first 2 years of being back home, I was extremely ill many times per year from Asthma and respiratory issues simply from being exposed to all my allergic triggers again. After being in and out of hospital many times I was desperate for a better, more Holistic Solution. That’s when I started researching Air-Purifiers.

After many days and hours of searching I found Ausclimate's Winix – and I can honestly say that it has changed my life! My husband and I were seriously considering moving back to Europe, to where I had NO trouble with illness at all. To my surprise, from the very first day of using the unit, I was a different person! The day I made the call to Allan, I was miserable and having difficulty breathing as the Asthma symptoms just would not go away. Now, I use my unit every day and since purchasing it a few months ago- have had no respiratory issues whatsoever.

I highly recommend this unit to anyone who is speaker, trainer or voice-user in their job and especially if you have suffered from allergies. Now, I can remain drug-free and symptom free even when others around me are suffering! It is such a HUGE lifestyle shift and I couldn’t be happier!”

If you find that you sometimes suffer from a raspy or tired voice, I'm addition to using a quality Air-Purifier, Elisa notes some handy, simple steps that can be a great help:

Everyday voice improvement tips:

  1. Make sure you stay hydrated as the mucosal lining of the vocal folds needs fluid to stay flexible.
  2. Breathe fresh, clean air when you can and minimize the air-conditioned environment.
  3. Suck lozenges that will support your immune system, not those that deliver pain relief or anti-inflammatories. The medicated lozenges can dry out your throat and make it harder for your vocal folds to function. Sambucol are a good brand, as they deliver good quality herbs that support the immune function and assist healing with Vitamin C, Zinc and Elderberry.
  4. Stay away from foods that exacerbate mucous production : E.g: Dairy.

Thank you so much Elisa for the kind words & handy tips!

If you are experiencing any issues with your speaking voice, or simply wish to improve the aesthetic quality and reliability of your voice - OR would like to improve your public speaking & presentation skills, please get in touch with Elisa at http://hapsvoicepro.com/ or call 0437 536 333. Ausclimate at the Sydney Homeshow!

Russell & Joanne have just finished up after a great time at the Brisbane Homeshow. Despite a crazy amount of rain, the resilient people of Brisbane still made it to the Homeshow; a great mix of new friends & returning happy Ausclimate customers! Joanne made sure to remind us that with all of this rain, it's the perfect time to fire up those dehumidifiers in the home. We should also make sure that we are regularly checking & cleaning our dehumidifier filters for optimal results.

Now time for Sydney! Chris & I are very excited to be at Sydney's brand new International Convention Centre at Darling Harbour for this year's Sydney Homeshow. Always a great time, we look forward to seeing many new faces & providing expert home moisture control & indoor air quality advice for those in need. Please stop by & say gedday. We'll be at site A25.

See you there!

P.S. for all of our online Ausclimate customers, we have an exciting product announcement coming soon!

Ausclimate have just finished up at the Melbourne Home Show & phew, what a week! We had a great time meeting everybody & providing them with clean-air & home-moisture solutions.

We'd like to extend our deepest thanks to Nicole Bijlsma for her wonderful "Allergens in the home" discussion this past Sunday. She provided such a wonderful & interesting insight on everyday home pollutants & what you can do to reduce your exposure to them.

Pete Higgins also did a fantastic job at his first Ausclimate Home Show, impressing everybody with his personable approach, great product knowledge & his very suave David Beckham aftershave.

Pete noted to us: "It was so pleasing for both the customers & us that we were able to offer a genuine solution with either an air-purifier, a dehumidifier, or both. Many visitors to our stand weren't aware of the moisture trapped in their carpets, furnishings and bedding and that this was causing mould and condensation which in turn was making them sick. It was great to help.

We were wowed by Nicole's talk on Sunday. Very interesting stuff! Nicole offered some real insight into the potentially damaging effects of an unhealthy home & some great solutions including; cleaning techniques, natural cleaning products, micro-fibre cloths, as well as our dehumidifiers & air-purifiers. It was great to have Nicole with us!"

A big thank you to Nicole & everybody that made the Melbourne Home Show such a success for Ausclimate. We'll be back in action on-location in September at Costco Canberra & then in October at the Canberra Home Show. Until then please feel free to give us a call, or visit the website for all of your Dehumidifier & Air-Purifier needs.

"Just wanted to say what a great asset to my workshop the Ausclimate NWT medium Dehumidifier is! I am a Luthier and need to keep the workshop at a steady 40-50% RH to be able to keep the timber at it's most stable and to give the finished instruments the best chance at survival once out in the real world and it's fluctuating RH. Thank you to Russell and the Team for all the expertise, I would highly recommend Ausclimate and it's Products to anyone. Thanks again, Happy Pickin"

Boiling one day, buckets of rain the next!

Erina Crazy Summer

See us in-person:

15th to 28th of Feb – (Erina Fair Shopping Centre, Erina NSW)
15th to 21st of Feb – (Top Ryde City Shopping Centre, Sydney NSW)

Australia is certainly experiencing a crazy summer - boiling summer heat one day, buckets of rain the next! (As you can see here today outside on-location at the Erina Fair Shopping Centre) During this time with these hot & clammy conditions we can really feel the humidity in our homes.

So here’s a timely reminder to get yourself ready for some serious home drying. Stop the mould, stop the dust-mites and protect your clothing, footwear, furnishings and other valuables. There is no better time than now to start up your Ausclimate Dehumidifier to keep everything dry, just remember a few of these moisture issues and maintenance tips:

  • Humidity: above 55%-60% means ideal conditions for mould & dust-mites
  • Do some serious structural drying: set the humidistat at 30% for ‘deep-down drying’ - run the Dehumidifier long enough to get those humidity levels really low!
  • Then make sure to do a follow-up 1-2 weeks later of drying at 30% to remove the surface dampness that accumulates
  • Keep the room/s closed up during the dehumidifying process Open up your wardrobes and cupboards to ensure everything dries out
  • Let the mattresses dry out too – (dust-mites can’t breed in a dry mattress)
  • AND don’t forget to keep your air filter clean too – it’s easy, just vacuum or run under water.

Survive this crazy summer, feel better & get a better night’s sleep; dry out your entire home now. There has never been a better time!

P.S. (Don’t forget your boat, caravan and storage areas, particularly before the winter weather arrives!)

We'll be at Erina till next Sunday with our full range of Dehumidifiers & Air-Purifiers. Come by & say hello!

NOW is the time to dry out your home!

Cyclones Lam and Marcia Head Onshore

The recent weather has been staggering – it’s just so wet! Following Cyclone Marcia, Cyclone Lam and all of the other recent heavy rains, we sincerely wish all of our Ausclimate friends that have been effected a speedy recovery.

Now that the immediate wild weather has passed, it’s high time for a “big-dry” to beat those musty smells and other potentially dangerous moisture-related issues. These musty smells are the first tell-tale signs that we may have excess dampness, mould growth, dust mites and other unhealthy allergens in our homes.

For this reason, we’ve put together this easy how-to list for this “big-dry” for all of our Ausclimate friends.

BIG-dry time!

It should be no surprise - the way to control these unhealthy conditions is at the source – “the moisture”. Common areas of excess moisture include: kitchens, bathrooms, cupboards, walls, windows & ceilings and of course our bedrooms, where we spend about 8 hours/day - under the bed, behind the bedhead, inside wardrobes and behind our other furnishings.

Here’s a few tips:

Wipe down & dry the damp areas – the longer we leave our homes damp, the more likely we are to get moisture damage such as wood rot, as well as mould and those other airborne allergens.

  • Ventilation is the cheapest option – open up the windows and some doors, turn on the ceiling fans and exhaust fans on dry, warm and sunny days.
  • A Dehumidifier is one of the quickest and most efficient options – just close up the moisture-affected room and let it remove all that unwanted moisture from the whole room.

Your Ausclimate dehumidifier will pull all that unwanted moisture straight from the room and into the dehumidifier’s water tank, or we can use the optional drain hose to run the water straight outside.

Extra tips to get improved dehumidifier results:

Push the Ausclimate dehumidifier into the worst affected room

  • Close the external windows
  • Remove the bed linen from the bed - drape the linen over a chair to also dry out the bed linen
  • Pull out the drawers partially – might as well dry the clothes inside the drawers too
  • Open the wardrobe doors and separate footwear & clothing slightly for improved drying
  • Turn on a fan such as ceiling fan for improved air circulation
  • Turn on the Ausclimate dehumidifier and set the humidistat at the lowest level of 30% (electronic models) or continuous/maximum (manual models).
  • Close the door behind you on the way out.

All rooms take varying times to fully dry – depending on seriousness of the moisture issues, size of room and capacity of your dehumidifier. Imagine pulling out 50litres from a room in just 24hours!

As always, if you’d like any extra help & guidance – please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the experts at Ausclimate. We are here to answer any of your questions, particularly initial deep-down drying times and followup drying times - we want you to get the very best from your dehumidifier.

All the best!
