"Just wanted to say what a great asset to my workshop the Ausclimate NWT medium Dehumidifier is! I am a Luthier and need to keep the workshop at a steady 40-50% RH to be able to keep the timber at it's most stable and to give the finished instruments the best chance at survival once out in the real world and it's fluctuating RH. Thank you to Russell and the Team for all the expertise, I would highly recommend Ausclimate and it's Products to anyone. Thanks again, Happy Pickin"

Erina Crazy Summer

See us in-person:

15th to 28th of Feb – (Erina Fair Shopping Centre, Erina NSW)
15th to 21st of Feb – (Top Ryde City Shopping Centre, Sydney NSW)

Australia is certainly experiencing a crazy summer - boiling summer heat one day, buckets of rain the next! (As you can see here today outside on-location at the Erina Fair Shopping Centre) During this time with these hot & clammy conditions we can really feel the humidity in our homes.

So here’s a timely reminder to get yourself ready for some serious home drying. Stop the mould, stop the dust-mites and protect your clothing, footwear, furnishings and other valuables. There is no better time than now to start up your Ausclimate Dehumidifier to keep everything dry, just remember a few of these moisture issues and maintenance tips:

  • Humidity: above 55%-60% means ideal conditions for mould & dust-mites
  • Do some serious structural drying: set the humidistat at 30% for ‘deep-down drying’ - run the Dehumidifier long enough to get those humidity levels really low!
  • Then make sure to do a follow-up 1-2 weeks later of drying at 30% to remove the surface dampness that accumulates
  • Keep the room/s closed up during the dehumidifying process Open up your wardrobes and cupboards to ensure everything dries out
  • Let the mattresses dry out too – (dust-mites can’t breed in a dry mattress)
  • AND don’t forget to keep your air filter clean too – it’s easy, just vacuum or run under water.

Survive this crazy summer, feel better & get a better night’s sleep; dry out your entire home now. There has never been a better time!

P.S. (Don’t forget your boat, caravan and storage areas, particularly before the winter weather arrives!)

We'll be at Erina till next Sunday with our full range of Dehumidifiers & Air-Purifiers. Come by & say hello!

NOW is the time to dry out your home!

Cyclones Lam and Marcia Head Onshore

The recent weather has been staggering – it’s just so wet! Following Cyclone Marcia, Cyclone Lam and all of the other recent heavy rains, we sincerely wish all of our Ausclimate friends that have been effected a speedy recovery.

Now that the immediate wild weather has passed, it’s high time for a “big-dry” to beat those musty smells and other potentially dangerous moisture-related issues. These musty smells are the first tell-tale signs that we may have excess dampness, mould growth, dust mites and other unhealthy allergens in our homes.

For this reason, we’ve put together this easy how-to list for this “big-dry” for all of our Ausclimate friends.

BIG-dry time!

It should be no surprise - the way to control these unhealthy conditions is at the source – “the moisture”. Common areas of excess moisture include: kitchens, bathrooms, cupboards, walls, windows & ceilings and of course our bedrooms, where we spend about 8 hours/day - under the bed, behind the bedhead, inside wardrobes and behind our other furnishings.

Here’s a few tips:

Wipe down & dry the damp areas – the longer we leave our homes damp, the more likely we are to get moisture damage such as wood rot, as well as mould and those other airborne allergens.

  • Ventilation is the cheapest option – open up the windows and some doors, turn on the ceiling fans and exhaust fans on dry, warm and sunny days.
  • A Dehumidifier is one of the quickest and most efficient options – just close up the moisture-affected room and let it remove all that unwanted moisture from the whole room.

Your Ausclimate dehumidifier will pull all that unwanted moisture straight from the room and into the dehumidifier’s water tank, or we can use the optional drain hose to run the water straight outside.

Extra tips to get improved dehumidifier results:

Push the Ausclimate dehumidifier into the worst affected room

  • Close the external windows
  • Remove the bed linen from the bed - drape the linen over a chair to also dry out the bed linen
  • Pull out the drawers partially – might as well dry the clothes inside the drawers too
  • Open the wardrobe doors and separate footwear & clothing slightly for improved drying
  • Turn on a fan such as ceiling fan for improved air circulation
  • Turn on the Ausclimate dehumidifier and set the humidistat at the lowest level of 30% (electronic models) or continuous/maximum (manual models).
  • Close the door behind you on the way out.

All rooms take varying times to fully dry – depending on seriousness of the moisture issues, size of room and capacity of your dehumidifier. Imagine pulling out 50litres from a room in just 24hours!

As always, if you’d like any extra help & guidance – please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the experts at Ausclimate. We are here to answer any of your questions, particularly initial deep-down drying times and followup drying times - we want you to get the very best from your dehumidifier.

All the best!

Evaporative Air Conditioners and Dehumidifiers

Evaporative Air Conditioner

Recently I spoke to a customer about the humidity problems they were experiencing with their Evaporative Air Conditioner so it prompted me to write this article about how a dehumidifier can help.

Many homes throughout Australia have Evaporative Air Conditioners. These types of air conditioners are very efficient and are an effective way to keep your home cool during the hot dry days of Summer.

The Evaporative Air Conditioner is quite different to the common refrigerant type models. A large fan draws the hot dry air in to the AC unit which is located on the roof. As it draws air in it passes through wet honeycomb type pads which cools the air. The cool air is then ducted into each room of the house.

However… there’s a downside.

Whenever it rains or even when its overcast the Evaporative Air Conditioner struggles to cool the home because the Relative Humidity can soar to as much as 80 - 90% inside. Therefore the home does not feel as cool as it should and the comfort level has become somewhat diminished. The Evaporative AC is then less effective; in fact it can make the indoor climate conditions worse. Everything in your home can start feeling damp and clammy like your bedding, flooring even the clothes in your wardrobes. In some cases it can lead to mould problems throughout your home.

Solution?

My wife Chris and I spend a lot of time in the NSW city of Wagga Wagga. This lovely city can be very hot and dry during Summer however lately they have experienced thunder storms, rain and high humidity. The Evaporative AC was working overtime until we started running our Ausclimate Dehumidifier. It removed a huge of the moisture/humidity therefore allowing the AC to function much more effectively. At one stage our NWT Large Home Dehumidifier was collecting an amazing 1 litre of water per hour and that was continuously over 2 days. Imagine that much water building up in your home!

If you live in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane in fact anywhere in Australia and you find your Evaporative Air Conditioner is struggling with humidity consider using an NWT Dehumidifier from Ausclimate www.ausclimate.com.au.

We're sure you’ll feel the difference.

Regards,

Allan & Chris

Wet weather camping & your dehumidifier

Camping Trip Dehumidifier

It's that time of the year again & we've already experienced our share of extreme wet weather, but we're determined not to let it take away from our holidays!

Last week my son, Cameron (pictured) got his fill of rain on a QLD camping trip. Lucky for him, upon his return he made great use of his Ausclimate Dehumidifier; drying out both his 4-wheel drive & his camping gear. This important step eliminated the moisture & prevented any potential nasty surprises for next time. He's already excited for his next trip tomorrow!

Make sure to follow suit with your Dehumidifier next time to get the most out of your camping gear and enjoy your next camping trip. Please refer to our previous camping gear post for step-by-step instructions. And as always if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Allan or myself for expert advice and custom solutions for all of your moisture problems. A stormy summer & your dehumidifier

Storm Season

Summer’s here

Wow! What a start to summer.

Heat, rain, storms and humidity; we got the lot! With weather like this it’s time to crank up your dehumidifier. Keep your home dry and you’ll protect your valuables, stop mould and musty odours.

Try running it in your bedroom once a week and feel the difference; no more uncomfortable damp and clammy bedding.

Can’t remember how to get the best out of your dehumidifier? Just check out our FAQs and Operating Tips @ www.ausclimate.com.au/faq.htm

And don’t forget to clean your air filter. Generally, by washing it under a tap once every few months will do the trick. The cleaner the filter, the more efficient your dehumidifier will be.

Cheers,

The Ausclimate team

Bedroom Mattress Dehumidifier Drying Guide

Bedroom Mattress Dehumidifier Drying Guide

Get rid of mould and dust mites from your mattress with your Ausclimate Dehumidifier!

We spend around a third of our lives in bed, and if you examine that bed closely, you may be unpleasantly surprised at who your sleeping with! Dust mites and other various microscopic nasties are likely breeding in your mattress all year round and can cause skin allergies, general allergies irritations and various breathing issues.

But luckily, there is an easy solution; Your DEHUMIDIFIER!

My partner, Joanne (pictured) always tells people how amazed she was the first time she saw about how much moisture the Dehumidifier was able to extract from the families mattresses at home.

Follow these simple instructions to dry out your mattress, carpet and inside of your wardrobe, reducing the moisture levels, therefore eliminating their optimal breeding conditions for these “nasties”. Through regular use, you’ll sleep better knowing that dust mites won't be there to affect you or your loved ones anymore.

Some easy to follow tips to dry out your bedroom:

  1. Place the Ausclimate Dehumidifier in a central location within the room
  2. Remove the bed linen to fully expose the mattress
  3. Drape the pillows over a clothes airer (optional)
  4. Pull the mattress away from the wall, about 20cms
  5. Prop up the mattress on its side (optional)
  6. Close the windows
  7. Turn on the ceiling fan or other fan/s for additional air circulation (optional)
  8. Set your Ausclimate Dehumidifier’s humidistat control to 30% for electronic models or ‘continuous’ for the smaller 12L/Day models
  9. Close the door behind you and let your Dehumidifier do its magic!

(Repeat this process every couple of months or during times of high rainfall/humidity)

And as always, if you have any questions, specific moisture issues or water-damage restoration questions, please feel free to contact Allan or myself for expert advice. We're always here to help! Ausclimate Contact Page

Ausclimate On-Location Update:

The Pines Shopping Centre, Elanora/Gold Coast QLD (Thursday 14/11 – Saturday 16/11)

We’ve had a great time this past week visiting Maroochydore and other areas of the Sunshine Coast. We were particularly delighted to meet Lesley Richards (pictured) and her cute little friend here at Pure Paws in Buderim. Lesley runs Pure Paws which is much more than a just a dog grooming business - "it's a first class natural canine boutique bakery, spa and training centre."

As seen in the picture, this curious pooch was particularly fascinated by the new Dehumidifier. Lesley uses her Ausclimate Dehumidifiers in the shop to dry out the doggy towels, keep mould at bay and assist in keeping away that “wet-dog-smell” that we all know and love!

So next time your giving your pooch a wash, get the Dehumidifier on the job to dry out your towels and prevent any of those musty “wet-dog” smells before they set in. And make sure to check out Pure Paws if your in the area, we’re sure your pooch will thank you for it! (We hear they've even got some lovely doggy birthday cakes for their special day)

Thanks Lesley, look forward to seeing you again next time we’re in town.

Get more out of your Air Conditioner with a Dehumidifier!

Get more out of your Air Conditioner with a Dehumidifier!

Ausclimate On-Location Update:

Charlestown Square Shopping Centre, Charlestown NSW(Monday 28/10 – Sunday 3/11)

It feels like summer already and our air conditioners will be working overtime in the coming months. Did you know that in rooms with high humidity, you can use your Dehumidifier in conjunction with your air-con to improve the comfort level of your rooms more effectively?

Air conditioners have to work a lot harder when they are trying to reduce room temperature as well as lowering humidity. By reducing your humidity level with your Ausclimate Dehumidifier, the air conditioner's thermostat can be set higher, therefore running less while still maintaining an ideal comfort level & perhaps most importantly, reducing air-con running costs!

Next time on a hot, steamy day get more out of your air conditioner AND reduce your running costs by trying out this handy tip from Ausclimate.
